With efficient collection and secure disposal, Medwaste takes the complexity out of waste handling, so you can focus on patient care.

What Is Dental Waste?
Dental waste includes any material that is produced during dental procedures that must be discarded. Due to the nature of the work, dental practices generate several types of waste that require careful handling and disposal, often under strict state and federal regulations.

Why Proper Dental Waste Disposal Matters
Dental waste may seem small in scale, but it can pose serious environmental and public health risks if not managed correctly. Materials such as amalgam, sharps, disinfectants, and pharmaceutical by-products often contain hazardous substances. When improperly disposed of, these contaminants can leach into soil and water supplies or cause injury and infection to waste handlers and the public.
Correctly managing dental waste is a key part of running a sustainable and ethical practice. The safe handling, segregation, and disposal of dental waste protects everyone, from patients and staff to the wider community.
Types of Dental Waste We Manage
We provide safe and compliant disposal solutions for all categories of dental waste, including:

Amalgam Waste
Amalgam contains mercury and must be disposed of through licensed hazardous waste channels. We handle:
-Amalgam capsules
-Waste from chairside traps or vacuum filters
-Extracted teeth with amalgam fillings

Infectious (Clinical) Waste
This includes any materials contaminated with blood or bodily fluids, such as:
-PPE (gloves, masks, gowns)
-Cotton rolls and gauze
-Suction tips and other disposables

Pharmaceutical Waste
Expired or partially used anesthetics, antibiotics, and pain relievers must be handled separately from general waste streams.

Proper classification is essential for maintaining safety and ensuring that waste is disposed of in an environmentally responsible way

Frequently asked questions
Have some questions before you get started?
Check out our FAQs below or call us 866.254.5105
What happens if I dispose of amalgam incorrectly?
Improper amalgam disposal can result in environmental contamination due to mercury and lead to fines or sanctions. Regulations require it to be treated as hazardous waste, and we ensure it’s handled correctly from start to finish.
Can I dispose of old medications down the sink or in the bin?
No — pharmaceutical waste should never be disposed of through regular waste streams. It must be collected separately in a secure, clearly labelled container. We’ll provide the right receptacles and take care of compliant disposal.
Will the price change?
Your price is guaranteed for 12 months from when you start services.
● You are never locked into a contract.
● You can change or cancel services at any time, without penalties or fees with a written notice.
● After 12 months, we have the right to increase pricing, with 30-day advance written notice.
● Any new pricing will be guaranteed for another 12 months.
● Price increases are not automatic or planned and are made on a case-by-case basis. In most cases, prices are not increased for a number of years.
● Our pricing for services is based on your location, the type of waste that you are generating, and how often you need services.
What’s the difference between a contract and a service agreement?
While your price for service is guaranteed for 12 months, you are never locked into a contract. Our service agreement is a document that details the services that MedWaste will provide along with the price that you can expect to pay.
It is not a locked contract, and you may cancel or change services at anytime without fees, penalties or damages. See a sample of the MedWaste service agreement that is currently in use here.
When do you bill for the service and how can invoices be paid?
MedWaste will send an invoice at month’s end for all services performed and products delivered during that month.
The invoice is due 15 days after its receipt. You will be asked if you’d like to receive your invoices through email or regular mail. All invoices can be paid with credit card or check.
