Consumers who receive injections of the drug are at high risk of serious and life-threatening health outcomes. The COVID-19 treatment is typically administered to adults and children with mild to moderate COVID-19 at high risk for illness progression.

All healthcare facilities and staff who administer the medication must closely examine all vials of the drugs in their possession. Patients should ask healthcare providers to closely examine each vial prior to accepting their injection.

Product Description

A healthcare professional must reconstitute and dilute the drug before administration. Once properly prepared, they administer the drug intravenously through an infusion.

Reason for Recall

Gilead Sciences, Inc. received a complaint that there were glass particles in one vial of the drug. Investigators identified and confirmed the particles to be glass. It is unknown how the glass came to be in the vial.
