Product Description

Robitussin is distributed nationwide at most pharmacies, including Target, Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens. It is also available through online distributors, including Amazon.com.

The product is a liquid packaged in a brown bottle with a white lid and distributed in a honey-colored box clearly labeled as “Robitussin.”

Reason for Recall

Inspectors discovered the presence of microbial contaminants within the drug. Out of an abundance of caution, the manufacturer moved to recall 8 lots also thought to be contaminated.

Impacts

Consumers who ingest the medication may also ingest infectious microbes that may lead to fungemia or disseminated fungal infections. This is especially risky for those who are immunocompromised. The symptoms of fungemia (fungal infection of the blood) or disseminated fungal infection (fungal infection which has spread throughout the body) vary widely. However, they can be severe and life-threatening in some cases.
